How to Operate The Trommel Screen?

The trommel screen is widely used in building stone, sand making from river pebbles, earth rock separation, coal gangue, and other projects. Trommel screen can be divided into two types: trommel screen with shaft(axial roller screen) and shaftless trommel screen. The shaftless trommel screen has more advantages in the application.

The axial trommel screen is evenly distributed through multi-point support, the screen body is relatively firm, the overall operation is stable and the stress is uniform. The motor and the reducer are connected to the central shaft for operation.

The shaftless trommel screen operates by supporting rollers. If the cylinder length is 1.5m-7m, four supporting rollers are used, and if the cylinder length is more than 8m, six supporting rollers are used. The weight of the equipment increases and the number of supporting rollers also needs to be increased. Up to 12 supporting rollers can be used. The shaftless drum screen drives the supporting wheel to rotate in one direction through the motor and drives the drum to rotate through the friction.

There is a difference between the bearing position of the shaftless roller screen and that of the shaftless roller screen. The bearing capacity of the axial roller screen is mainly on the bearings at the front and rear ends of the central shaft, and the force of the drum feeding is uniformly distributed on the support points of the central shaft; The support points of the shaftless roller screen are at both ends, and the bearing capacity is evenly distributed on the supporting rollers. Several supporting rollers run in the same direction at the same time to generate friction transmission kinetic energy. Therefore, the shaftless roller screen has high requirements for the quality of supporting rollers.

Working Principle of Trommel Screen

The drum device of the drum screen is generally inclined to a certain extent. The motor of the drum screen is connected with the drum device through the coupling through the reducer, and then driven. The roller device rotates around the axis. After entering the drum device, the materials are turned and rolled on the screen surface under the rotation of the inclined drum device. The materials that meet the particle size of the screen are discharged from the discharge port at the bottom of the screen drum, and those that do not meet the particle size requirements are discharged from the discharge port at the tail of the drum.

Installation and Debugging

1. Debugging of trommel screen

Generally, it is debugged by the manufacturer before leaving the factory, but unpredictable conditions may occur during the transportation of the machine. Therefore, after receiving the equipment, the user should carefully check its various components to prevent adverse effects caused by improper transportation.

2. Precautions for equipment installation and debugging

(1) The deviation of the machine in the horizontal range should be less than two millimeters per meter.

(2) It is strictly forbidden to erect other components on the drum screen, which may affect the strength and rigidity of the equipment.

(3) Clean the site after installation, and foreign objects such as installation tools are not allowed to remain inside and outside the screen.

(4) Check whether all the fasteners are firm and reliable, and whether there is looseness. If the side is not properly confirmed, it is strictly forbidden to start the machine.

3. No-load debugging

(1) Pay attention to whether there is any abnormal noise.

(2) After the machine runs for ⒉ hours, the bearing temperature should be below 70 degrees Celsius.

(3) After the no-load test is confirmed to be normal, the load test can be started.


Equipment Operation

1. Inspection before the operation

  • First, check whether the electrical equipment and instruments are in good condition.
  • Open the inspection door and check whether there are ore and foreign objects in the cabin. If necessary, it can be operated after cleaning.
  • Whether the rotary drum screen is flexible by manual turning if so, it can be adjusted by adjusting bolts.
  • Check whether the bolts are loose or broken.
  • Check whether each bearing seat and gearbox are well lubricated, whether the oil level is moderate, and whether the protective cover is in good condition.

2. Equipment operation

  • The rolling screen must be rotated without load
  • After starting, observe whether the discharge is normal. After the power is turned on and the machine runs normally, the material is evenly loaded into the feed port until it is fully loaded. The screen should not be impacted too much during material loading. After the machine has been running for 8 hours, the bearing temperature should be below 70 degrees Celsius. After all the above conditions are normal, it can be put into normal use. If any problem is found, stop and adjust.
  • The operator should inspect the equipment once an hour to check the particle size of the discharged material and whether there is any leakage and dust.
  • Check the temperature rise of the motor and transmission parts and whether there is any abnormal noise.
  • Check whether there is slag blocking at the inlet and outlet, if so, deal with it in time.



  • Before each shutdown, it must be confirmed that all materials in the drum are screened before shutdown.
  • After the shutdown, multiple equipment should be checked, and if there is any abnormality, it should be dealt with in time.
  • At the same time, do a good job of equipment and environmental sanitation, and do a good job of operating records.
