Problems and Solutions for Gold Flotation Machine

Flotation machine is the abbreviation of flotation mineral processing equipment. As one of the common separation equipment in chemical mineral processing, it mainly cooperates with flotation reagents to allow the slurry to achieve mineral separation with the help of the buoyancy of bubbles. There are many types of flotation machines, among which mechanical flotation machines are the most widely used type of flotation equipment.

The normal operation of a flotation machine is an important factor in ensuring its processing capacity and flotation indicators. However, some faults may occasionally occur during the flotation process, which will have a certain impact on the flotation operation. Common mechanical flotation machine faults mainly include Stirring mechanism failure, scraper mechanism failure, tank failure, and gate failure.

If we do not deal with equipment failure in time, it will not only affect the flotation machine but also cause certain economic losses to the mineral processing plant. Let’s first briefly analyze the faults related to the flotation tank.

Tank failure

Failure of the flotation machine tank generally occurs during the equipment installation stage. The main manifestation of the failure is water leakage, that is, there will be varying degrees of water seepage or leakage at the connection surfaces of each tank. This phenomenon sometimes also occurs at individual welds at the bottom of the tank.


  • When connecting the surfaces of each tank body, ensure that the rubber is intact and not deformed. At the same time, fill the flange surface with sealant to enhance the sealing effect. After the joint surface is well connected, pre-tighten the bolts.
  • If leakage is found in the gap between the connected tanks, first check whether the bolts are loose and whether the rubber is damaged, then try to loosen the tightening bolts, refill the sealant between the bolts and rubber or the maintenance interval, and then retighten the bolts.
  • If the location and cause of the leak cannot be determined, or if the operation is not effective, you can try to fully pottage glue around the surface flow plate of the flotation machine, or solve the leakage problem by continuously welding the perimeter of the joint surface flow port.


Wear or corrosion at the bottom of the tank

During long-term operation, the slurry in the flotation cell is subject to strong rotation by the flotation machine, which will cause severe wear and gradual thinning of the lower tank of the flotation machine, resulting in wear and deformation of the surrounding guard plates. In addition, under the action of flotation chemicals, the thinned tank body will accelerate corrosion, thereby affecting the normal operation of the flotation machine.


  • When the flotation machine tank is damaged, it should be repaired in time.
  • If the damage is serious, the entire tank should be replaced in time.


Pry up the tank bottom guard plate

The tank bottom guard plate of the flotation machine mainly protects the bottom of the tank. In daily operation, when the flotation machine impeller is in a high-speed rotating state, the slurry will accelerate circulation in the flotation machine tank, and the bottom guard plate of the flotation machine tank will be pried up, affecting the normal operation of the flotation machine. In serious cases, it will cause the motor to be overloaded, leading to safety accidents.


  • When the flotation machine is started, the flotation machine operator needs to adjust the pneumatic valve of the flotation machine to the appropriate position to ensure that the flotation machine is in normal operation.
  • If the bottom guard plate of the flotation machine tank is pried up, the machine should be stopped in time for repairs.


Flotation machine runs cells and slurry

The reasons for this phenomenon are

  • The amount of medicine added is too large, or organic oil is mixed into the slurry;
  • The suction or aeration volume is too large;
  • The liquid level is set too high;
  • The concentration of the slurry is too high, and the ore particles are too coarse.


  • Adjust the pharmaceutical system, especially the dosage of foaming agents must be strictly controlled.
  • Reduce the inflation or inhalation volume appropriately.
  • Appropriately lower the liquid level.
  • Reduce the concentration of the ore slurry and operate the grinding classification to control the ore particle size.

Generally speaking, there are several reasons for this situation: the ore feed volume of the flotation machine is too large, the aeration volume is too large, the intermediate box and the liquid level adjustment plate are blocked, the suction tank has insufficient slurry suction capacity, and the flushing water pressure is too small.

In these cases, the blockage of the liquid level adjusting plate is easy to cause sand to settle. The liquid level adjusting plate should be lowered first to clear the blockage. If necessary, the underflow valve can be opened to allow the slurry to circulate. Check the aeration amount and acid pipes. If it is blocked, the ore-feeding amount and overflow concentration should be ascertained at the same time, the reasons should be found in time, and the ore-feeding amount or other factors should be adjusted in time according to the reasons.


The flotation machine falls out of the tank

The causes include:

  • The front tank running rough and the scraping volume is large;
  • The liquid level in the front tank is unreasonably adjusted;
  • The coarse sand hole in the front tank is clogged;
  • The gate is over-adjusted, especially in the reverse direction.


  • Carry out grinding and classification operations before flotation.
  • Adjust the liquid level in the front tank.
  • Clear the blockage.
  • Reset the gate.


The flotation tank of the flotation machine has a large foam and reflective surface

When large foam appears in the tank of the flotation machine and reflection occurs on the surface, the reason may be that too much flotation agent is added.

At this time, the operator should appropriately adjust the dosage of flotation reagents and observe whether the flotation foam condition has improved.


The liquid level in the single flotation tank of the flotation machine is too high

If the flotation machine has a problem with high liquid levels in a single flotation tank, the reason is mostly that the suction pipe is blocked.

At this time, the operator needs to stop the machine to clean the suction pipe.
